Phish closed their Labor Day Weekend run – and their string of summer tour dates – on Sunday, Sept. 5 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
A groovy set one was punctuated by an opening “The Moma Dance,” followed by “McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters” as well as an unfinished “Sand” jam that bled into “Sigma Oasis” and “All of these Dreams.”
Unfortunately, just as the band were hitting their stride, a livestream disruption at the peak of “Reba,” caused viewers at home to miss set one’s “Bathtub Gin” closer.
During setbreak LivePhish’s Twitter account wrote, “We experienced a technical glitch during ‘Reba.’ Sincere apologies for the inconvenience. The full show will be available on demand tomorrow.”
Set two, however, was dotted by bustouts like “Catapult” (last played 7/14/19, before that it was played on 7/27/14) and Phish’s second-ever “Bliss” (debuted on 12/30/18 at Madison Square Garden).
“Catapult” was also ripe for improvisational opportunities like the lyric tweak, “I went to Dicks and hooked up to a machine.” Bassist Mike Gordon also tossed in “Cool amber and mercury” teases for good measure.
Phish’s final Dick’s set closed with “Most Events Aren’t Planned”> “Harry Hood,” before a heavy 3.0 encore of “More”> “Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.”
Looking ahead, Phish will enjoy a month or so off, and pick up their fall tour this October.
Trey Anastasio will also play a string of solo shows from Sept. 17 through Oct. 3.

Bliss bust out
September 10, 2021 at 11:09 amHilarious. Bliss is an instrumental that lasts somewhere around 2 minutes, and it consists of two simple arpeggiated chords. Oh the rehearsals needed for this one!
