On Saturday, Apr. 17, Chris Thile hosted an event as part of the NY PopsUp state-wide festival at New York City’s East River Amphitheatre. The live performance was formatted like Thile’s Live From Here broadcasts; the mandolinist MC’d the show, performed some of his own material and joined guest musicians.

Thile began the show with a cover of Gillian Welch’s “Winter’s Come and Gone,” a fitting choice given the series’ theme of revival, followed by a track from his upcoming album Laysongs.

The show featured Stay Human’s Louis Cato, who backed most of the performances and played some of his own material. Award-winning poet Carl Hancock Rux delivered his poem “Baptism” over three parts, backed by pianist Timo Andres and other guest musicians.

Lake Street Dive’s Bridget Kearney, Rachael Price and Akie Bermiss stopped by to perform songs from their upcoming record Obviously, as well as a cover of the Golden Girls’ theme “Thank You For Being a Friend.” The event finished up with a group performance of “Thank You, New York.”
