Umphrey’s McGee continued their collaborations with support act The New Deal on Saturday night, welcoming drummer Davide Di Renzo in Detroit for a single song sit-in.

Previously, The New Deal’s keyboardist Jamie Shields jammed with UM for a Steely Dan cover in Ohio.

Saturday night’s gig, on the other hand, was highlighted by an opening “You’ve Got the Wrong Guy,” followed by Di Renzo’s sit-in on UM’s “Mulche’s Odyssey.”

Di Renzo is a fairly new recruit in The New Deal, having joined the band in March 2019; he also serves in the UM offshoot Omega Moos.

Later, UM sank into an improv-heavy, six song set two, with a stand-alone “Phil’s Farm” to kick things off.

The band then jammed new original “Suxity” into “Lenny,” before a brief stop in “Believe The Lie” gave way to “JaJunk”> “August” to end the set.

UM encored their Detroit gig with a segue from “Bullshit Anthem” into a “JaJunk” reprise.
