Nicole Atkins celebrated the release of her seventh album, and first in over six years, Drama during Nashville’s Americana AmericanaFest last week. Atkins performed multiple times during the city-wide event, including an official showcase at Analog at the Hutton Hotel on Friday, the LP’s official release date.

The New Jersey-bred, Nashville-based musician is also the first artist signed to Chris Isaak’s new Wicked Game Records imprint on Sun Records and, during her showcase Friday, Atkins invited the veteran musician out to join her on vocals and guitar for “Cue The Symphony,” the song on Drama he lent his services to. Wilco’s Patrick Sansone, who produced the record, also joined Atkins during her show.

“I’m excited… Nicole Atkins’ new record is out today! I’m proud to be a tiny part of this project, and I love turning friends onto Nicole’s music,” Isaak said of the album. “She’s incredible! I’m picky about singers but she is the real deal. Soulful and powerful. I’m giving her five stars!”

In addition to her own performances, Atkins also sat in with Duane Betts at Nashville’s Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday during the guitarist’s performance. Atkins, who grew up in the jamband scene, emerged to sing on a cover of The Allman Brothers Band’s “Whipping Post.”

Atkins will kick off a tour at Columbus, OH’s Rumba Café on October 9.
