Two bands delivered some entertaining musical moments over the weekend by juxtaposing songs of the same name.

On Sunday, at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, WA, the String Cheese Incident performed two versions of “Come As You Are.” Late in the first set the band kicked into Michael Kang’s “Come As You Are” which debuted back on 8/31/96 and appears on the band’s 1998 album ‘Round the Wheel. From here the group segued into a long anticipated version of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are”. The group then moved from the 1991 Nevermind track, back into its original to complete the sequence. SCI had explored the Nirvana catalog on only two other occasions, playing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” on Halloween 2002 at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA and then on 10/26/19 at Suwanee Hulaween in Live Oak, FL.

In Bellvue, Colorado on the previous evening, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country had a similar idea. During the encore of their second show at The Mishawaka, the group offered their debut take on Beck’s “Loser” from the 1993 album Mellow Gold. This led into to Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter’s “Loser” before returning to the Beck tune. Donato and company had previously played the Grateful Dead tune on only three other occasions, most recently at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on 10/25/25.

The audio from The Mishawaka is cued up below. The String Cheese Incident will next perform at Riverfront Park in Harrisburg, PA on August 5. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country’s next gig is tonight in Hope, Alaska at the Creekbend Company.
