This summer, Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade will take to the skies again as part of the Claypool Gold tour, canding together three of the bassist and bandleader’s most beloved outfits for an unprecedented collaborative outing. As anticipation for that run reaches a fever pitch, Claypool has unveiled Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1, a four-track live EP from the band, set to release on May 22.

Return Of The Live Frogs: Volume 1 features treatments of four core cuts from the Frog Brigade’s catalog and its extended universe; Purple Onion standouts “Up On the Roof,” “D’s Diner” and “Cosmic Highway” figure are matched with “Phantom Patriot,” drawn from Claypool’s 2006 solo debut Of Whales and Woe. That album features the saxophonist Skerik and percussionist Mike Dillon, both longtime staples of the Frog Brigade alongside guitarist Sean Ono Lennon, keyboardist Harry Waters and drummer Paulo Baldi. The songs are the first live dispatch from the band’s 2023 tour, which reunited the celebrated ensemble for their first live performances since 2005.

After three more years away from the stage, Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Frog Brigade will cross the country this summer with Claypool Gold, sharing the stage with Primus and The Claypool Lennon Delirium. From May 20 to July 4, the bassist and bandleader will lead his storied bands on a 30-stop trek across the country, promising a “mind-melting musical experience” and “fluid show featuring wildly different setlists and surprises.”
