Eggy pulled into Salt Lake City last night for a standalone stop between the end of their West Coast co-headline tour with Taper’s Choice and the arrival of their pair of aftershows for Phish’s first Sphere weekend at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. At The Commonwealth Room, the quartet kept their mounting momentum with two sets that paired new and old originals with a few covers, including their first take on a Steve Miller Band essential in eight years.
Eggy launched their performance on Tuesday night with “Wayless,” a core cut that has been a reliably effective show-opener for them since 2019. After “Rosetta Stone” and “Evergreen,” the indie-jam forerunners dropped into “A Moment’s Notice,” the first of two cuts from 2024’s Waiting Game included in the evening’s setlist. An acoustic cover of Kacey Musgraves’ “Oh, What A World” capped off the first frame.
Following a brief intermission, Eggy launched their second set with “Woah There,” which peeled off suddenly into a treatment of “Parceled Serotonin” that featured a tease of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” from guitarist Jake Brownstein. The group hit their most recent studio album again with “Must Come Down,” then merged into a rendition of “The Stake” from the Steve Miller Band’s 1977 studio album Book of Dreams. In the wake of a high-flying frame finale of “Leatherback,” Eggy concluded the show with an encore of “Golden Gate Dancer.”
Eggy will perform next at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas on April 16 and 17, then return to their central Connecticut roots for one night at Hartford’s Infinity Music Hall before flying out to Goose’s second annual Viva El Gonzo destination festival.
