On Saturday, April 11, Eggy and Taper’s Choice pulled into Seattle’s Neumos for the last staging in their West Coast co-headline tour. After two weeks on the road, the independently esteemed jam quartets have increasingly brought their complimentary styles together, and the grand finale in the run brought their most impressive collision yet with a full ensemble debut cover of Nirvana’s “In Bloom.”
Before they joined forces to punctuate their shared series, Eggy put on a show lined with more minor surprises, packing four bust-outs into their 12-track set. The band opened their frame with “One Stop Shop,” then raced off into “Sweaters for Strawmen” and the relatively fresh original “Breaking the Horse.” The band brought on the night’s first curveball with Donovan’s “Barbajagal,” which they’d played last in March 2025, then veered into a take on “Hux (Wit’ It)” ornamented with a tease of Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.” Further curveballs came with Keith Jarrett’s 1974 ECM mainstay “The Windup,” which they’d played last in February 2025, Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly,” last played in February 2024 (and paying homage to their Seattle roots) and finally the original “Portable Air Scrubber,” which appeared for the first time since March 2025.
When Eggy returned for their encore, they were joined by all four members of Taper’s Choice, currently comprising bassist Alex Bleeker, keyboardist Zach Tenorio, drummer Chris Tomson and guitarist CJ Tywoniak. Alex Bailey brought lead vocals and Bleeker took up the guitar for the first time take on Nirvana’s 1991 Nervermind essential, another nod to Seattle’s status as ground zero for grunge.
The end of Eggy and Taper’s Choice’s shared tour will give the latter band a few weeks off to prepare for their May aftershows for Phish’s Sphere run, while the former will keep on with a stop in Salt Lake City tomorrow before arriving at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas for a similar commitment this weekend.
