Tedeschi Trucks Band’s marathon March run at New York’s Beacon Theatre continued last night. For their seventh show of the residency, the group welcomed a mix of guest musicians to the stage throughout the night, including some unexpected faces. The expansive group also continued to showcase material from their new album Future Soul, which they released on Friday and then performed in full at the Beacon, running through five of the LP’s tracks on Saturday night.
Most notably, at the start of their second set, TTB brought out Cyndi Lauper for a take on Hambone Willie Newbern’s “Roll and Tumble Blues.” Lauper, who lives in New York, has long voiced her admiration for Sudan Tedeschi and even once asked her to join her band. In November, Lauper and TTB teamed up for a take on an all-star version of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends” at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction as a tribute to their mutual influence Joe Cocker, who famously made the tune his own. Nathaniel Rateliff, Chris Robinson, Teddy Swims and Bryan Adams also joined in on the Rock Hall cover.
The sit ins then continued later in TTB’s second set last night when Nico Bereciartua, who has played guitar with The Black Crowes since 2023, emerged for a rendition of Sleepy John Estes’ “Leaving Trunk.” Soon after, bassist James Genus, a current member of the SNL band, took the stage as well, joining on “Hero” and Dr. John’s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters.” He then returned with the bad for a lone encore of Joe Tex’s “Show Me.”
New York’s Brooklyn Bowl will host the premiere of Tedeschi Trucks Band’s The Garden Party at MSG film this afternoon. TTB will return to the Beacon on Wednesday.
