On March 21, The Travelin’ McCourys released their unannounced LP, One Chord That Rings True. Before the full-length arrival, the ensemble percolated singles from the collection, providing an instrumental framework for their latest studio sessions.
One Chord arrives after the band’s self-titled 2018 offering, which earned a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album the year it was released. The group’s latest collection presents 10 tracks that emphasize their signature brand of bluegrass excellence as exhibited on the previously shared single, “Runaway Train,” co-authored by the brothers, Ronnie and Rob’s dad, Del.
Joining the brothers in the studio and across the album is fiddler Jason Carter (his last recording with the band before igniting his solo career), guitarist Cody Kilby, and bassist Alan Bartram.
The ensemble presents a diverse range of songs, drawing from Johnny Cash/ Randy Shuggs (“Passin’ Thru”), Bruce Hornsby (“White Wheeled Limousine”), Paul Simon (“50 Ways to Leave Your Lover”), and others.
