Last night, Trey Anastasio’s acoustic tour continued at New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre. The largely solo performance marked Anastasio’s first Big Easy appearance since Phish’s 2014 spot at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and his first stop at the Saenger Theatre since the inaugural Oysterhead show in May 2000.

As a nod to his history with the venue, Anastasio performed a solo acoustic version of Oysterhead’s “Rubberneck Lions” six songs into his extended set, while touching on that gig during his between-song banter. It was the second time the Phish guitarist has dusted off the cut this tour, following a March 11 concert at The F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Like all the concerts on his current outing, Anastasio also brought out his close collaborator, piano player Jeff Tanksi, at the end of the show. Tanksi, who met Anastasio while working on Hands on a Hard Body and has continued to work for him as an arranger and accompanist sat in on a stretch of tunes that closed out the night.

This evening, Anastasio will appear at Birmingham, AL’s Alabama Theatre.
