After debuting its new lineup at Tool Live in the Sand earlier in March, Primus have returned to announce the Onward & Upward Tour. This summer, the funk metal pathbreakers will bring their ever-evolving sound to 25 performances across the country from July 5 to August 8. The band’s first independent headline tour with new drummer John Hoffman will welcome alternating support from garage rock forerunner Ty Segall and freak funk bassist MonoNeon.
Primus will tear into the Onward & Upward Tour following another round of the celebrated Sessanta Tour, which will rejoin the trio with pioneering peers A Perfect Circle and Puscifer for 26 further coheadline dates from April 24 to June 7. After a monthlong intermission, the road warriors will kick off their next lap with a July 5 performance at Paso Robles, Calif.’s Vina Robles Amphitheatre. Les, Ler and the newcomer now affectionately termed “Hoffer” will move through three nights in the mountains–including a July 9 set at Morrison, Colo.’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre–from en route to five dates in the Midwest from July 7-16.
The band will pull into the Northeast with a July 18 stop at Lafayette, N.Y.’s Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards, then continue through three other dates in the region (with a stop at New York’s The Rooftop at Pier 17 on July 21) from July 19-22. Primus will trek down the coast for a staging at Raleigh, N.C.’s Red Hat Amphitheater on July 23, then wind through three further Southeast sets before stopping in Hoffman’s hometown of Shreveport, La. for a July 29 show at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium.
After stops in Dallas and Phoenix on July 30 and Aug. 1, Primus will wrap the Onward & Upward Tour with a five-show finale in its home state of California. This closing run will include sets in San Diego, Santa Cruz and Los Angeles from Aug. 1-3, then culminate in a two-night booking at Sacramento’s Channel 24 on Aug. 7 and 8.
Tickets for Primus’ Onward & Upward Tour will become available through a VIP and Artist Presale tomorrow, March 26 at 10 a.m. local time. A general on-sale will follow this Friday, March 28 at 10 a.m. local time. For more information, visit primusville.com.
