Jerry Joseph will regroup his seminal reggae-rock group Little Women for a one-off performance next month. The show will be held at Virginia City, MT’s Virginia City Community Center as part of a three-night event that’s scheduled to take place from Thursday, July 31-Sunday, August 2. Little Women are slated to appear on Sunday.
Joseph will perform with his current project, the long-running Jackmormons, on all three nights while Sgt. Splendor and Casey Neill will provide opening duties. The weekend-long celebration will also boast Young Jim Carr at the nearby Pioneer Bar and Jackmormons drummer Steve Drizos will play a few streets over at The Metropolitan Meat Market.
Little Women were active from 1981-1993; their lone full-length studio album, 1990’s Pretty Wiped Out, featured contributions from the band’s onetime guitarist Steve Kimock as well as David Lindley and Ian McLagan. Widespread Panic opened for them during their rise and Panic continues to cover their tune “Chainsaw City” and a number of other Joseph originals and co-writes.
For the upcoming reunion shows, Little Women’s lineup will feature Joseph, Brad Rosen (drums), Stevie James Wright (bass), Gregg Freeman (percussion), Jeff George (keyboards) and Steve Drizos (percussion). Joseph last regrouped the project at Portland, OR’s Alberta Rose Theatre on November 2, 2022, for a show benefiting Wright’s wife’s heart transplant.
Jospeh and the Jackmormons will open a run of shows at Seattle’s Sea Monster Lounge on July 23. The prolific songwriter will also release the second volume in his Panther Tracks series, which spotlights fan-favorite songs from the band’s live catalog that, until now, have never received proper studio recordings, on July 31 via on Cavity Search Records. Drizos produced the set, which featuring contributions from The Decemberists’ Jenny Conlee (piano/Wurlitzer) and Eric Martinez (guitar/backing vocals). The Dimpker Brothers, Paul Brainard and Todd Wright also each guest on a song.
