On April 18, 2024, the world lost a true musical icon with the passing of the great Dickey Betts.  At 80 years old, Betts remained an inspiration for generations of artists across scenes and styles, not only for his visionary approach to guitar with the Allman Brothers Band that defined the sound of rock’s golden age, but also for his spirit, which poured over with passion, danger and light.

That light never dimmed, and this Friday, Feb. 28, a collective of Betts’ collaborators and devotees will stoke the flame of his legacy with an all-star tribute concert. The Macon City Auditorium will honor the larger-than-life artist with a stacked ensemble of curated by his son, Southern rock torchbearer Duane Betts; Betts will be joined by Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Oteil Burbridge, Jaimoe, Chuck Leavell, Devon Allman, Charlie Starr, Jimmy Hall and Lamar Williams Jr., with more surprise special guests amplifying the tribute.

While the highly anticipated “In Memory of Dickey Betts” concert is now completely sold-out, organizers have responded to overwhelming demand by announcing a free live stream. Now, fans outside of the Allman Brothers Band’s old stomping grounds will be able to tune in to the star-studded program exclusively via nugs.net.

In conjunction with this announcement, the Betts family, Dickey’s long time manager David Spero and Berklee College of Music have shared that a portion of the proceeds from Friday’s festivities will go towards establishing the Dickey Betts Memorial Endowed Scholarship at Berklee. This new fund will maintain the artist’s commitment to furthering the music and supporting the next generation of artists, keeping The Ramblin’ Man’s legacy alive and roaring after the encore.

“For so many of us, Dad’s gift to the world was music,” Duane Betts shared in a release. “I’m so happy to come together with some very special friends to honor the depth and beauty of his life and, of course, to share that sweet, melodic sound he is so well known for.” On the event’s foundational contributions to the Dickey Betts Memorial Endowed Scholarship, Betts added “We are thrilled to know that the proceeds are going to such a worthy cause.”
