Tomorrow, August 6, Vice President Kamala Harris will begin her in-person campaigning for office with a tour of seven key battleground states. For her appearance in Eau Claire, Wis. on Wednesday, August 7–just days after announcing her candidacy and exceeding the delegate threshold for nomination–the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate will be joined by Bon Iver. Continuing a longstanding reputation for active political engagement, frontman Justin Vernon will introduce Harris to his hometown with a live performance.

Vernon has previously shared vocal support for Democratic politicians, utilizing his platform to boost senior Vermont senator Bernie Sanders’ candidacy in both 2016 and 2020. As this announcement arrives so rapidly after President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, the artist has not yet publicly endorsed Harris, though this nod–like Harris’ selection for her vice presidential running mate–can be expected prior to the event.

Popular music has already become a vital touchpoint of Harris’ campaign, as the Vice President’s sweeping embrace of Charli XCX’s Brat and Chappell Roan’s “Femininomenon” in early social media and marketing materials has bolstered an appeal to younger voters. Harris also recently made headlines by selecting Beyoncé’s 2016 smash “Freedom” with Kendrick Lamar as her official campaign song, queued up to play as the newly minted candidate walks out at campaign engagements. Bon Iver’s performance follows sets from hip-hop stars Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo at Harris’ July 30 rally in Atlanta.
