Hartford, Conn.’s Arch Street Tavern has announced an intimate new jam show set for the end of summer, featuring a rare combination of special guests. On August 31, the classic rock and psychedelia haven will welcome an exciting duo of The String Cheese Incident’s Michael Travis and ElephantProof’s Ben Atkind, who will summon all their instrumental prowess to deliver a completely improvised “dance odyssey.”
Travis, who has become a familiar figure in the jam scene for his thirty years of drums and percussion, is no stranger to this sort of performance, as he’s honed his jamtronica chops alongside Aaron Johnston with the fan favorite electronic duo Snakes and Stars. While Atkind, formerly of Goose, has not developed such a complimentary side project, the artist recently rehearsed a similar form of improvisatory fusion as a part of DJ Logic’s ensemble for the Dead & Company aftershows. As both artists typically favor percussion, the resulting collaboration is bound to be rhythm-heavy and tantalizingly unknown.
For support the duo will be joined ay openers Px3, a Hartford-based trio specializing in freaked-out organ improvisation. In their post on the set, Px3 teased, “Do we smell a super-jam brewin’?! Come hang and find out.”
Tickets for Travis and Atkind’s show at Arch Street Tavern are available now.
