The Joy Theatre in New Orleans has shared details surrounding its impending fleet of shows that will be presented under the Joy Fest After Dark 2024 concert series umbrella. Events are slated to occur over two weeks during the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, April 27 through May 4, at the aforementioned location. 

The concert series is scheduled to commence on April 27, with a performance by the Take Me To The River All-Stars, which will bring together an eccentric group of musicians from the Crescent City and Memphis, Tenn., William Bell, Cyril Neville, Ivan Neville, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ian Neville Anjelika Jelly Joseph, Big Chief Bo Dollis Jr., George Porter Jr., Dumpstaphunk, Galactic, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Rebirth Brass Band, Kermit Ruffins, The Soul Rebels, Trombone Shorty and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Robert Mercurio of Galactic will serve as the night’s musical director. 

More music will pick up on May 2, with an appearance from Leftover Salmon, the second act to participate in the slate of musical performances at The Joy Theatre. Additional entertainment will ensue on May 3, when Lettuce takes their stand, which doubles as a night billed as RAGE!FEST, featuring Adam Deitch (drums, percussion, arrangement), Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff (guitar), Erick “Jesus” Coomes (bass), Ryan Zoidis (saxophones), Eric “Benny” Bloom (trumpet) and Nigel Hall (keyboards, vocals).

The Joy Fest After Dark 2024 concert series will come to a close after a performance from the Crescent City Classics on May 4, which pull in members of the New Orleans scene, including funk tastemakers George Porter Jr., George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Ian Neville, Ian Neville, Alex Wasily, and members of Lettuce, paired with other NOLA favorites, like Erica Falls and John “Papa” Gros. Eric Krasno will serve as the night’s musical director.
