Today, Jan. 22, Billy Joel has unveiled “Turn the Lights Back On,” his first new music release since 1993’s River of Dreams. The new single–originally referenced as “a little something we’re working on” in the artist’s first post to TikTok last month–will be released on all streaming platforms on Feb. 1. To accompany the surprise release, the artist has announced a limited-edition 7” vinyl record and lyric video set to arrive on the same day.

Billy Joel’s highly-anticipated return to the charts comes from a collaboration with GRAMMY-nominated producer Freddy Wexler. The new single was written by Joel, Wexler, Arthur Bacon and acclaimed songwriter Wayne Hector, lending yet another degree of pop prestige to the project. In the lyrics to the forthcoming release, Joel coyly teases even more new music, asking his audience, “Did I wait too long… to turn the lights back on?”

The rock icon’s new track is available to pre-save on all streaming services now, alongside a pre-order link for the limited edition vinyl single. Visit billyjoel.com for more information on upcoming releases and 2024 tour details.
