George Porter Jr. will celebrate his 76th birthday during his weekly gig at New Orleans’ Maple Leaf tomorrow. The Meters bassist will perform with his longstanding Runnin’ Pardners at 9pm; a special “silver sparkle foil poster” will be available the night of the show and poster tubes will also be provided. Though Porter’s birthday is technically December 26, and he traditionally hosts his show on his actual birthday, Monday’s gig will no doubt stretch past midnight.

With January 1 falling on a Monday, Porter will also perform at The Maple Leaf on another night when many clubs remain dark. For that show, Porter will play with his GPJ Trio, featuring Mike Lemmler on keys, Terrence Houston on drums and guitarist Chris Adkins.
