Today, New York’s Jesse Malin gave a health update since beginning daily rehabilitation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the rare spinal injury that took his ability to walk in June. The statement, shared with Rolling Stone, comes in conjunction with a music video from the singer-songwriter who was set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his album The Fine Art of Self Destruction.

Still unable to walk Malin told Rolling Stone of his lingering insomnia and anxiety still present seven months after his injury before looking toward Bruce Springsteen for hope. “…I just have to keep a positive outlook and believe,” he said. “I think of that Bruce Springsteen song ‘Stolen Car,’ when he says, ‘I’m driving a stolen car through a pitch-black night/I keep telling myself everything’s gonna be alright.’ But it all feels like one long, tough day.”

His days as of late would be a challenge for any person with physical therapy and stem-cell treatments always around the corner. Still, it’s what Malin signed up for and traveled 12 hours by plane in the hope of true recovery. While in New York his insurance limited his therapy to just twice a week.

Speaking on the present Milan said, “Everyone’s been so great and supportive that I felt it was time to let people know what’s up,” before detailing how the money from the recovery fund dedicated to him and merch drops have funded his medical journey so far. Notably, a charitable action of Romone memorabilia and clothes will be held today, Dec. 11 via a partnership with the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund and the estate of Joey Ramone, a friend of Malin and a former road buddy when Malin fronted D Generation.

Today, Malin also premiered a video directed by Dave Stekert and filmed and produced before his spinal stroke for “The Fine Art of Self Destruction.” The re-recording is retitled “The Fine Art of Self Destruction (Lonely Process)” and sees guitar from Derek Cruz.
