Last night, August 17, ALO took their Silver Saturdays Summer Tour to New York’s Brooklyn Bowl. The evening started with a frame courtesy of Honey Island Swamp Band, who welcomed ALO’s Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz to sit in on their song, “Sugar, Sugar.” Later on, the the California-bred rock ensemble took the stage for their set, where they treated concert-goers to a surprise by welcoming special guests: Reed Mathis (Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Tea Leaf Green) and Daniel Donato out, separately, to assist on choice numbers. 

Of note, Mathis and Donato are in New York City, anticipating their Dead on the Water concert with Billy & The Kids, which is slated to occur tonight, August 18, at the outside venue, Pier 17. As fellow Bay Area players and friends, it made sense that Mathis would show up and help out his friends during the night. After ALO worked through some material, the bassist, Mathis, lent his skills on “How This Is All Ending,” adding riffs to the already jammed-out tune. 

ALO went with a solo delivery on the original “Plastic Bubble,” which served as a highlight, before covering Simple Minds’ hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” For the final song of the main frame, the band went with “ Room for Bloomin’” prior to launching into their encore, during which they brought up Donato to assist on the initial tune: “Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down.” For the last number, ALO covered War’s classic “Why Can’t We Be Friends” with the night’s first act, Honey Island Swamp Band, and Donato.
