Founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, Jaimoe is returning to the stage for a series of concert appearances this summer as he marks his 80th birthday. The drummer will join Friends of the Brothers for four upcoming live shows, beginning on June 23 at City Winery in New York City. The crop of dates arrives after Jaimoe’s return on April 27 at the SHU Community Theater in Fairfield, Conn., just days after the passing of ABB bandmate Dickey Betts.
Following the initial Big Apple concert, Jaimoe and Friends of the Brothers will take some time before their next appearance, July 11, at The Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pa. Jaimoe will celebrate eight decades of experience on July 24, marking his birthday with an official concert for that purpose at The Ridgefield Playhouse, in Ridgefield, Conn. The final joint date featuring this amalgamation of musicians will go down on Aug. 9 at The Vogel in Red Bank, N.J.
Friends of the Brothers is a salute to the Allman Brothers Band led by a trio of musicians with ties to the originals: Junior Mack, who fronted Jasssz Band for 15 years and a regular ABB guest; Andy Aledort, a touring member of Dickey Betts and Great Southern for a decade; and Alan Paul, the Allman Brothers Band biographer.
“We love Jaimoe as a person and as a musician and are so honored that he chose us to return to the stage with,” says Paul. “But, most of all, like all Allman Brothers Band fans, we are thrilled that he is back out there performing! Above and beyond everything, Jaimoe is a monster drummer with a totally unique perspective and style. There’s a reason he was the first person Duane Allman asked to join his band! The world needs more Jaimoe!”
