Today, June 10, Joe Russo has revived his beloved “This Is Gonna Be a Blast” concert series with the announcement of a sixth installment in the jam celebration. Russo will return to New York’s Sultan Room on Wednesday, August 28, sending off the summer in style with the company of some greats.
“This Is Gonna Be a Blast Vol. 6” will figure the renowned drummer and bandleader alongside keyboardist John Medeski, a regular collaborator who previously participated in “This Is Gonna Be a Blast Vol. 4” in February of this year. To round out a trio format, Russo will welcome Lee Ranaldo, the legendary guitarist best known as a founding member of Sonic Youth. These artists enter the rare roster of top-tier musicians that have joined Russo for the intimate Sultan Room shows, including Mike Gordon, Wilco’s Nels Cline, Marco Benevento, The Barr Brothers and the BOYFRIENDS! quartet.
Doors for the event will open at 7 p.m. and the performance will begin at 8 p.m. Fans can find tickets via DICE and learn more about the Sultan Room’s programming at thesultanroom.com.
Russo will take the stage next on Friday, June 14 at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, where Joe Russo’s Almost Dead will headline That Stage. The band will continue on its summer tour following the landmark fest set, plotting 11 further festival and independent appearances through early September.
