After a decade-long absence, The Disco Biscuits returned to the West Coast with three performances at Livingston, Mont.’s Pine Creek Lodge. A major highlight of the run was an unprecedented 34-minute rendition of their original track, “Voices Insane,” which took place on Saturday, making it the longest version ever played by the band.

The band’s bassist, Mark Brownstein, shared his enthusiasm on the performance, stating, “When we get on stage, we never know what’s going to happen, but we hope that through the process of intense and open listening, we will arrive in the place that we did on 7/8/23, where the band is reacting to each other in perfect harmony and unity.”

“Voices Insane” kicked off with a mesmerizing 12+ minute extended intro jam, setting the stage for the song’s signature fiery compositions. However, it was the 22-minute mark that saw the band embark on a true musical adventure, led by the interplay between keyboardist Aron Magner and guitarist Jon Barber. Exploring dark and psychedelic soundscapes, the band united on a peak before seamlessly transitioning into their rendition of Donna Summer’s iconic song “I Feel Love.”

The three-night run at Pine Creek Lodge delivered a series of remarkable moments and highly-anticipated returns. The first night saw the resurrection of the fan-favorite storytelling machine, “Nughuffer,” which had been absent from the stage for a staggering 77 shows since April 1, 2022. Additionally, the night was filled with explosive jams stemming from tracks like “7-11” and inverted favorites such as “Crickets” and “Reactor.” The evening also featured the band’s second-ever live performance of their latest original composition, “Photograph.”

Along with the aforementioned 34-minute number, Saturday night was a spectacle in itself, performances of favorites like “Caterpillar” and newer originals like “Freeze” and “The Deal” peppered the night. Adding to the excitement, the band surprised fans with a rare gem, “Hope,” which hadn’t graced the stage in 51 shows since Oct. 3, 2022.

The final night of the run took the band’s musical exploration to new heights. The first set opened with a captivating synth-wave jam that jammed into a multi-peak, “Spacebirdmatingcall.” After a 33-show hiatus, the eagerly awaited return of “Resurrection” took fans by storm. The second set featured extended improvisations, pushing the boundaries of their sound, culminating in an old-school medley of “Basis for a Day” > “Cyclone” > “Basis for a Day.”

As The Disco Biscuits continue their scorching streak in 2023, fans eagerly await their upcoming performances in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and California. Their next show will take place at Revolution in Boise, Ind.
