After Friday night’s initial stand at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wis., Phish returned to the fabled stage on Saturday, Aug. 13, for the second consecutive evening of music at the outdoor venue. Following night one’s mention of the full moon and meteor showers up above, the band continued by picking up last night’s first set with a segued pairing of “1999” and “Fluffhead.” The pairing is believed to be a deliberate choice for the Trey Anastasio-led ensemble–as fans have hypothesized the arrangement of the night’s opening numbers paid homage to the foursome’s 1999 set at the venue, where they historically stretched the night’s second number.

After the first two songs of the show, Phish continued their set at Alpine Valley Music Theatre by adding “Saw It Again,” which bled from the night’s opening songs. “Leaves” arrived next; the tune was first played on July 17, 2017, in Chicago and has only been dabbled with eight times after its initial debut. “Back on the Train” was segued in next and before Phish ran through “Taste” and the first post-pandemic “Petrichor,” which was last performed on Dec. 8, 2019, at North Charleston Coliseum in North Charleston, S.C., before ending the night’s first set on “The Squirming Coil.”

“Backwards Down the Number Line” ran into “Maze” to start the second musical set, with the first song marking one of the longest jammed-out takes to date. “Mr. Completely” arrived next and saw Anastasio tease in a bit of a “Crazy Train” cover before launching into “Roggae.” Then, “About to Run” arrived, right before the band kicked into “Waves” and a set ending “Undermind.” Finally, for the night’s encore, Phish went with “Blaze On” as the finale for the their second night at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wis.

After last night’s gig in the Badger State, Phish will return to the stage once more this evening, where they’ll conclude their return at the historical setting. Then, following tonight’s gig, Phish will take a two-week break from the road before returning for the last tour stops of summer, which land on Sept. 1 through 4, when they take the stage at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. All four nights of their tour finale are sold out.
