moe. and Umphrey’s McGee’s joint moe.ment.UM run progressed last night to Baltimore, MD’s Nevermore Hall. Umphrey’s McGee played the closing set and, as they have throughout the collaborative tour, the members of the two bands took the stage together for a special encore. This time the festivities kicked off with moe. bassist Rob Derhak replacing Umphrey’s McGee bassist Ryan Stasik, moe. drummer Vinnie Amico subbing in for Umphrey’s McGee drummer Scotty Zwang and the rest of moe.–guitarists Chuck Garvey and Al Schnier, percussionist Jim Loughlin and keyboardist Nate Wilson–emerging for the moe. classic “Nebraska.” The song choice was particularly notable: Umphrey’s McGee covered the Tin Cans and Car Tires track, as well as some other moe. tunes, a few times in their early days, but they had not played the number since November 20, 1998. According to All Things Umphreys, that was 2, 886 shows ago, making it the biggest bust out in the group’s history (assuming one considers it to a proper bust out since last night’s version was more of a cross-band collaboration).

The special moments didn’t stop there. First, Schnier and Loughlin remained on the stage as the rest of Umphrey’s McGee returned for “Cut the Cable” and then Garvey, Jim Loughlin and Wilson also helped Umphrey’s McGee close the night with a cover of The Who’s “Eminence Front.”

The moe.ment.UM Tour will continue at New Haven, CT’s College Street Music Hall this evening. Umphrey’s McGee will play first and then moe. will take the stage.
