Oysterhead continued their long-awaited reunion on July 3 at The Peach Music Festival, marking their first gig since their twonight Colorado run in February 2020. Before that, the supergroup hadn’t performed since 2006.

The single-set, marquee performance on the Peach Stage drew a large portion of the festival’s attendees, as they gathered to watch the rare assembly of Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool and Stewart Copeland. (Some fans did get some extra Anastasio earlier in the day, when he made a surprise appearance at Ghosts of the Forest bandmate Celisse’s set.)

As for Oysterhead, a majority of their set came off their lone studio LP The Grand Pecking Order. The festivities kicked off with the band’s namesake tune “Mr. Oysterhead,” followed by “Oz is Ever Floating” – in fact these first two songs mirrored Oysterhead’s final pre-pandemic Colorado gig exactly.

From there, more The Grand Pecking Order material followed, namely, “Rubberneck Lions,” “Little Faces,” “The Grand Pecking Order,” “Polka Dot Rose,” “Army’s On Ecstasy” and “Shadow of a Man.”

The evening’s lone, non-Oysterhead tune arrived with Phish favorite “First Tube” – this was a surprisingly conservative move by the band, as previous Oysterhead reunion shows also included material by Claypool’s Primus, Copeland’s The Police and even fellow power-trio Cream.

The set ended with “Owner of the World” and a “Pseudo Suicide” encore.
