This week’s All The Years Live video selection showcases the Grateful Dead’s high-energy “Bertha” which opened their Independence Day 1989 show in Orchard Park, NY.
“From its opening notes, we knew this was going to be a show on July 4th,” explains GD archivist David Lemieux. “This ‘Bertha’ finds the Dead in fine form, carrying on the energy they’d ended the previous show in Foxboro.”
In January, All The Years Live revisited the “Cold Rain and Snow” from this same 7/4/89 outing.

October 8, 2020 at 3:51 pmREALLY wish I had gone on to that “next” show from the Boston/Gloucester, Mass area after the July 2nd, 1989 show at Foxboro, Mass. IOW I saw the 7-02-89 Dead show then went back to KC, my bad! I believe CSN opened this 7/04/89 show? We got lucky in KC, the next year we got the 4th of July/Tour opener in 1990, unreal GS show (7/04/90). Man I miss JERRY!
