For this week’s edition of the Grateful Dead’s ‘Shakedown Stream’ broadcast series, the band will stream their concert film The Closing Of Winterland, which showcases their Dec. 31, 1978 performance at the Winterland Arena in San Francisco.

In addition, the band has announced that Grateful Dead vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux will be a special guest on the pre-show portion of the broadcast, which begins at 8 p.m. ET on May 1. The pre-show is hosted by Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux and historian Gary Lambert. To submit questions for Godchaux, use this form. The film itself will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET.

The Dead’s New Years Eve 1978 show at Winterland was the last to be held at the venue. The show ran nearly five hours and included a breakfast portion for fans at dawn. In addition, the show features the first performance of “Dark Star” since Oct. 18, 1974; this marked one of if not the most significant and sought-after bust outs in the Grateful Dead’s career, as the song was deeply revered by fans.
