The Marley family has released a brand new, animated music video for “Redemption Song,” in honor of the song’s 40th anniversary.
The video was released as part of a larger celebration of Marley’s 75th Birthday, which occurred on Feb. 6. According to the Bob Marley official Facebook page, “upcoming YouTube videos of previously unreleased material will be dropped throughout the year, encompassing music, art, photography and more.”
According to the a press release, the “Redemption Song” video was “created by French fine artist Octave Marsal and Theo De Gueltzl, featuring 2,747 original drawings. The breathtaking animation, shot frame-by-frame [and] uses powerful symbols to amplify the magnitude of the song’s timeless lyrics and importance in today’s world. The video highlights Bob’s contribution to the empowerment of black civilization, as well as his manifestation of hope and recovery for all mankind.”
