Multi-hyphenate Anderson .Paak brought his soulful tune “Make It Better” to Kimmel on Thursday night, inviting music legend Smokey Robinson to add some signature vocals to the composition.

Robinson also appears on the studio version of “Make It Better,” which is a highlight of .Paak’s most recent release, Ventura.

Earlier this year, .Paak told Zane Lowe of Apple Music that while they were in the studio Robinson reformatted the track entirely. “Lord knows I had different lyrics before,” he said. “[Robinson] came and changed the whole thing up…My original was like, ‘It’s easier to run away than to eat what’s on your fucking plate,’ and he was like, ‘No baby, What in the hell? No, no.’”

That camaraderie shines through on the live performance below, with Robinson and .Paak standing arm-in-arm and joking around with one another.
