Celebrating 10 years of Brooklyn Bowl and 20 years of Soulive, Bowlive VIII continued on Saturday night for its third evening of high-energy jams.

After shows with Ivan Neville and Oteil Burbridge, John Scofield joined Soulive on Saturday as the first electric guitarist of the six-night run.

Soulive took the stage alone for the show’s first half, starting with “So Live” the opening track off their 1999 LP Get Down! and jamming through another original, “Cannonball.”

Immune from the massive power outage across the river in Manhattan, Soulive offered an electrifying set with additional tunes like “Bubble,” “One In Seven,” “Third Stone,” “Lenny” and a closing “Tuesday Night Squad.”

After setbreak, Scofield’s arrival added an extra, jazzy element to the festivities. The newly-formed quartet kicked things off with “Kelpers” off Scofield’s 2000 Bump record, and later treated fans to a blistering version of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” by the Allman Brothers Band.

After another Scofield original – “Hottentot” – vocalist Avery Sunshine hit the stage for the evening’s final two songs, “I Don’t Need No Doctor” (as made famous by Ray Charles) and The Impressions’ “We’re A Winner,” which served as the encore.

Bowlive VIII continues next weekend, with special guests Marcus King (July 18), George Porter Jr. (July 19) and Sam Kininger (July 20). Visit BrooklynBowl.com for tickets and more information.
