Ahead of their weekend run at The Capitol Theatre, the String Cheese Incident celebrated DelFest with the festival’s namesake bluegrass legend as well as members of the Travelin’ McCourys and young gun Billy Strings.

It didn’t take long for SCI to start welcoming guests onstage at the Cumberland, Md. event. After an opening “Got What He Wanted”> “Can’t Stop Now” segment, the band invited Joe Craven onstage to add percussion to their new cut “Manga.”

Later, Ronnie McCoury, Robbie McCoury and Jason Carter of The Travelin’ McCourys jumped in for seven songs, namely SCI’s “Colorado Bluebird Sky” and a debut of Hank Williams’ “Long Gone Lonesome Blues,” as well as a long jam on “Boo Boo’s Pik-A-Nik”> “Take The Money And Run”> “Salt Creek”> “Take The Money And Run”> “Big Mon.”

The first set came to an end with arguably the evening’s biggest sit-in, bluegrass legend Del McCoury playing on Leon Jackson’s “Love Please Come Home” and Hank Williams’ “I Saw The Light.” (The latter tune also included
Alan Bartram on bass and Cody Kilby on acoustic guitar.)

Whereas set one included 10+ tunes, SCI’s set two was rather brief at DelFest. Opening with “Hi Ho No Show”> “Way Back Home”> “Rollover” segment, the band invited Billy Strings onstage for a rip-roaring “Black Clouds,” before closing with “Illegal”> “Close Your Eyes.”

The band encored with “I Wish.”
