On Thursday evening, former Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason brought his Saucerful of Secrets band, who made their debut less than a year ago, to New York’s Beacon Theatre as part of their first-ever North American tour, and the group was joined by another Floyd Alumnus, Roger Waters.
Mason’s new group focuses on tunes from Pink Floyd’s early, pre-Dark Side of the Moon catalog—hence their name, which takes from the band’s sophomore album and its title track. Last night, Waters emerged to take lead vocals on “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun,” also from the band’s namesake record. He also took some time to join Mason behind the drum set and hit the gong while his former bandmate continued on the kit. The two surviving Pink Floyd cofounders last shared the stage on May 12, 2011, during a Waters performance at London’s 02 Arena. (David Gilmour also participated in the partial Pink Floyd reunion.)
Check out the setlist and fan-shot video of the sit-in below. Mason and Saucerful of Secrets return to the Beacon stage tonight for round two.

Nick Mason Continues Pink Floyd Infighting, Likes Roger Waters to Stalin - Musicians Territory
October 8, 2021 at 12:25 pm[…] Mason and Waters seemed to squash their beef as recently as 2019, when Waters made a surprise appearance at the Beacon Theatre to sit in with Mason’s Saucerful of […]

April 21, 2019 at 10:47 amGlad it was the same setlist as I went Friday night based upon this article, no Roger Waters, didn’t miss him. Was more than adequate and reasonably priced…

April 20, 2019 at 12:06 pmThis would be awesome to see. I have not listened to PF in a very long time. Too much access to too much media. I never listen to all the music I acquired way back when that formed my musical taste anymore.

April 19, 2019 at 5:38 pmYes, same setlist and same comments… Nick makes the comment about Roger stealing the mallet for the gong, as well as the comment about playing a particular song to Floyd members and they suggest he play in another band, at every show. It’s definitely a well scripted show but that’s fine, not every single concert/band needs to change things up every show. Different strokes for different folks, enjoy the music. As for Roger, he’s far from evil… he may have a very strong opinion that you very much disagree with but he stands for his convictions. It’s fine to disagree, but do it with strong supporting statements, not insults. Though that conflict is a super-sensitive topic, so I get the anger he generates. But, when you get to the point of suggesting he can’t play music or sing you just appear foolish…

April 19, 2019 at 2:30 pmWaters is a bum at best and evil at worst. Yea, he can write dark tunes but can’t play music or sing worth a damn.

April 19, 2019 at 2:07 pmShow was awesome for someone who loves early Pink Floyd! Funny, review of their show at Wiltern (LA) noted that Nick Mason never got to play the gong back in the day – Roger Waters always did – and so Nick got his own band so HE could bang the gong. And last night? Sure enough, Roger headed back and beat the gong! Poor Nick but I don’t think he minded this one time! Great moments and a terrific band playing with Nick Mason. NOTE: same show every night.

April 19, 2019 at 12:40 pmSaw this show in Buffalo last week. While it’s FAR from what people have come to expect at a Floyd/Gilmour/Waters show, it was still very entertaining with a lot of great music and musicianship. Great to hear the old stuff! Would have loved to seen Roger on stage with Nick!
