As previously announced, Bethel Woods will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock with a series of stand-alone concerts (as opposed to a larger, more concentrated event that was originally planned), and now organizers of the events have announced a kickoff celebration that will feature a free performance from Arlo Guthrie and screening of the Oscar-winning documentary on the legendary festival, Woodstock.

On Aug. 15, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts will present the film on the original field where Woodstock was held, preceded by a set from Guthrie, who played at the original festival on that same date in 1969. The entire event will be free to the public, though ticket registration will be required for entry.

“As guests experience the legendary performances featured in the film, it is our hope that they will also begin to feel and reflect on the humanity that may have surrounded them 50 years earlier,” says Bethel Woods Center for the Arts CEO Darlene Fedun.

Tickets will be available starting April 8 at 10 a.m. ET. More information can be found here. All details of Bethel Woods’ Woodstock 50 celebration can be found here.
