Paul Simon continued his three-night New York run on Friday evening with the second of two shows at Madison Square Garden, delivering another career-spanning performance that drew from his work with Simon & Garfunkel along with his solo catalog and featured guest spots from both Simon’s collaborators in the chamber ensemble yMusic and his wife, fellow singer-songwriter Edie Brickell.
Last night’s setlist adhered to the same structure as night one at The Garden, as have previous shows during Simon’s current Homeward Bound Tour, billed as the legendary songwriter’s final outing. Along with Simon & Garfunkel classics like “America,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (featuring yMusic), “Homeward Bound,” “The Boxer” and “The Sound of Silence” (which closed the second encore and wrapped up the evening), Garfunkel also offered solo favorites like “Graceland,” “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes,” “You Can Call Me Al” and “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” plus a run of “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard” that saw Brickell—who recently announced a new album, Rocket, and fall tour with her New Bohemians—emerge to lead the way on the song’s iconic whistling section. As with previous stops on teh tour, yMusic also joined Simon on stage for “Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their Dog After the War” and “Can’t Run But.”
See the full setlist below, along with fan-shot video from the night, via YouTube user Otom Izot. Tonight, Simon’s tour rounds out with a special performance at Queens’ Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which is billed as his final live performance.

September 23, 2018 at 6:14 amFrom the beginning it has always been apparent who the force was behind the songs : Paul Simon, the songwriter. There is no doubt that Art Garfunkel was an integral part of the success of the performing duo of Simon and Garfunkel, and his contribution to the technical brilliance of the S&G albums. But to call Simon a ‘douche’ because Garfunkel wasn’t a part of Simon’s farewell tour is ridiculous. This tour particularly covered the entire expanse of his career. Yes, Garfunkel was a significant part of it, but Simon’s solo career has eclipsed the early years and in the end, it is the brilliantly diverse songs over half a century that will remain his legacy.
FIX THE FUCKING FONTS ALREADY
September 22, 2018 at 12:19 pmDouche bag can’t bring back / bring out poor Art Garfunkel for his “last” live shows?
