Dead & Company continued their summer tour with a stop at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Michigan. Among the highlights early on included the Dead & Co debut of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” a popular cover in the Dead’s repertoire, as it was performed 146 times by the group first debuting in 1987.

The second set was also anchored by several lengthy jams in tunes like “Estimated Prophet,” “Truckin’” and “The Wheel,” which preceded the 1-2 set closer of the Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” and the Dead classic “Casey Jones.” The band returned for a one-song encore of Chuck Berry’s classic “Johnny B. Goode.”

The tour continues this weekend in Alpine Valley with a two-night run that will be webcast.
