Gov’t Mule and John Scofield continued their collaborative tour over the weekend with a pair of stops out west in Oakland and Las Vegas. In Oakland at the Fox Theater, Scofield sat in towards the end of the first set on “Blind Man in the Dark,” “Instrumental Illness,” “Birth of the Mule” and “Doin’ It to Death,” which closed the set. The guitarist then returned for the closing of the second set for a trio of covers in “The Shape I’m In,” “Low Spark” and “Dreams.” A Sco-Mule version of “Get Behind the Mule” closed the show.

Last night in Las Vegas, Scofield once again sat in towards the end of the first set on Wayne Shorter’s “Tom Thumb” as well as “Wabash” and Zappa’s “Trouble Every Day.” The second set sit-in would be extensive as Scofield would team up with Mule for their own “Devil Likes it Slow” and “Hottentot” before the set-closing “Sunshine.” During the encore, the band dug into “Goin’ Out West” which featured a fun cover of “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” by T.Rex, which led back into the ending of “Goin’ Out West” before the show came to an end.

Next up for Sco-Mule is a show tonight in Aspen, CO at the Belly Up. The show is currently sold out.
