Gov’t Mule kicked off their Sco-Mule tour with guitarist John Scofield last night at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. The band was joined by special guest John Popper during the show, which also featured a couple of song debuts.

Mule began the night with a few guest-free songs before Scofield finally took the stage in the middle of the first set. The guitarist first came out for a take on “The Other One Jam” that featured lyrics from “3rd Stone From The Sun,” “Norwegian Wood,” “Paint It Black” and “Gimme Shelter.” Next came a rendition of the Medeski, Scofield, Matin & Wood collaboration “Hottentot” that was followed by Mule’s first-ever version the Allman Brothers Band’s “Instrumental Illness.” The set then wrapped up with a take on “What Is Hip?”

The band returned to kick off the second set with Mule’s debut of the Scofield original “Wabash” before digging into a “Sco-Mule” that included “Hottentot” and “Oye Como Va” teases. Next, Blues Traveler harmonica whiz John Popper joined the fray for Little Feat’s “Spanish Moon,” which played into “Drums” and a set-closing “Thorazine Shuffle.” Sco-Mule came back out with Popper to end the night on a “Soulshine” that was sandwiched around “Tupelo Honey.”

Gov’t Mule and John Scofield will continue their tour tonight at the McDonald Theatre in Eugene, OR.
