STS9 headlined Morrison, COs legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre for the third year in a row this past Saturday. Building on last years two-night event, the group branded this years Red Rocks event the Day Out of Time festival and booked a mix of opening acts: Pretty Lights, Pnuma Trio, Telepath, Flying Lotus, Daedelus, The Album Leaf, Nosaj Thing & Lipp Service featuring Eliot Lipp and members of Pnuma Trio. In addition, STS9 played a far smaller show the night before its sold-out Red Rocks gig at Denvers Fillmore Auditorium.
STS9s Red Rocks setlist featured what many are calling a perfect balance of old and new songs, highlighted by the 2009s first rendition of GLOgli as well as a run from WMIOD into Kaya that the band hasnt played in years. The first of STS9s two years also featured a rare cover of Boards of Canadas RoyGBiv. The band also played a number of newer songs like Heavy Metal, Atlas and a funky version of Empires. The group will return to the road next week for an appearance at Chicagos Lollapalooza festival.
