This past Friday, the High Times Cannabis Cup Band backed a range of vocalists at B.B. King’s to mark Bob Marley’s 64th birthday. This was the 13th annual Marley tribute and opened with a brief set from The New Kingston band, featuring the three young sons of reggae producer Courtney Panton. Then the Cannabis Cup Band took the stage for three sets of Bob Marley material. Guest vocalists included Mark Shine (‘So Much Trouble, ‘Jamming’), Mista Rhee (‘Caution,’ ‘Fussing & Fighting’), former Wailers guitarist and singer Andrew McIntire (‘Johnny Was’), Ansel ‘Meditations’ Cridland (performing ‘Blackman Redemption,’ which he sang with Marley on the original recording), Mishiboo (‘Babylon System’), Josey (‘Do It Twice’), Gary Pine, who took on Marley’s lead role with the Wailers for several years, singing Peter Tosh’s rock version of ‘Get Up, Stand Up.’ and 13-year-old Jahnei Clarke (‘Jah Live’ and ‘Who the Cap Fit’). The High Times Cannabis Cup Band will return to B.B.‘s on Friday night.
