Though in many ways they exist in opposite corners of the jamband universe, over the weekend the Disco Biscuits hit the road with Govt Mule for a three-show run through Texas. The mini-tour kicked off at Austins Stubbs BBQ on Friday where Govt Mule welcomed John Popper and Austin guitarist David Grissom (Dixie Chicks, John Mellencamp) to the stage for 32/20 Blues and guitarist Gordie Johnson out for Im a Ram (Johnson recently spent time working with Govt Mule on its new album in Austin). The following night both groups found themselves at Houstons House Of Blues, where Warren Haynes joined the Disco Biscuits onstage for the first time for a cover of Pink Floyds Have a Cigar. Then things wrapped up last night at Dallas House of Blues when Govt Mule invited Disco Biscuits guitarist Jon Gutwillig out for Sco-Mule and all of the Disco Biscuits onstage for a show-closing cover of Nirvanas Lithium. Lithium and Have a Cigar are two of the only songs both the Disco Biscuits and Govt Mule have covered in recent years.
The Disco Biscuits will perform at Denvers Ogden Theater on February 13 and 14, while Govt Mule will appear at Tulsa, OKs Cain’s Ballroom Tuesday.
