Hai Karate was a budget aftershave on sale in the United States and the United Kingdom from the 1960s through the 1980s. It was famously used by teenagers as their first scent, competing with other market leaders Brut, British Sterling, English Leather and Old Spice. As a unique marketing ploy, in the early days each bottle of Hai Karate came with a small self-defense instruction booklet, to help wearers defend themselves against women.
Hai Karate is now also a new supergroup will take the stage on December 26 at San Franciscos Boom Boom Room. The group will bring together guitarist Dan Lebowitz (ALO), bassist Ron Johnson (Karl Densons Tiny Universe, Papa Mali, Lyrics Born), guitarist Brian Jordan (Karl Densons Tiny Universe, Lauryn Hill), drummer Thomas McCree, (Lyrics Born), keyboardist Eric Levy (Garaj Mahal) and an assortment of emcees for an evening that has been billed as a twisted and hard-groovin’ SoulBeat Rockin’ collaboration of smokin’ hot shake-it-up music. A handful of special guests are expected.
