Widespread Panic will be inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 20. The group is slated to perform at the Atlanta-based award show, which will be broadcast live on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
‘Sharing this honor… with so many of our greatest musical influences, is something I’m sure none of the Band members imagined when we first started making music together, John Bell said in a statement. September 20th is going to be a truly special day for the entire Widespread Panic Family.
Bell and Michael Houser met and began playing music together at the University of Georgia at Athens in the early 1980s. In 1985 Dave Schools signed on and Widespread Panic played its first official show in 1986. Past Georgia Music Hall of Fame inductees include the Allman Brothers Band, R.E.M. and Ray Charles. Widespread Panic will perform at Knoxville, TNs Tennessee Theatre this evening.
