Before taking the stage at Bonnaroo last week, keyboardist JoJo Hermann told Relixs Cold Turkey that he had a date with some of his friends to see the King Solomon Burke on That Stage. Less than a week later, Hermann scored a chance to perform with the soul-icon himself at Los Angeles Orpheum Theater. At the end of Widespread Panics first set, Burke fronted the sextet on his own None of Us Are Free, which Panic has covered regularly since 2005. The gig marked the first time Burke has performed with Widespread Panic, though they have crossed paths at a number of festivals and award ceremonies over the years. The groups summer tour will continue tomorrow at San Diego, CAs Civic Theatre.
