Over the weekend Soulive celebrated the release of its latest studio effort, _ Break Out_, with a hometown performance at New York’s Irving Plaza. Longtime band associate Sam Kininger opened the evening before jetting across town to join The Coast-To-Coast Allstars’ New Orleans benefit at the Zipper Theater. Kininger’s band, which includes drummer Adam Deitch, bassist Aaron Bellamy and guitarist Adam Smirnoff, remained at Irving Plaza, however, and joined the evening’s headliners for its of ‘Do It Again.’ Over the course of the night Soulive also played a number of tracks from Break Out including the instrumental ‘Interlude #1.’ Also of note, early in its set Soulive played an adventurous cover of ‘California Love,’ which featured Eric Krasno on vocals via a voice box.
Soulive performs next at Northampton’s Pearl Street on November 3. The trio is also scheduled to be interviewed by Larry King on CNN at 9 PM EST tomorrow.
