Guitar legend Carlos Santana sat in with Trey Anastasio and his band Saturday at The Warfield in San Francisco. Carlos emerged in the first set for Last Tube and The Way I Feel and then returned for the entire second set, which featured a 28-minute Mr. Completely, a first-time cover of John the Revelator, Night Speaks to a Woman and Caravan. For the encore, the band covered The Beastie Boys version of Root Down,’ which samples Jimmy Smith’s 1972 song ‘Root Down (And Get It)’.
Anastasio and Santana have collaborated in the past. Phish performed several dates opening for Santana in the summer of 1992 and then again during a European tour in the summer of 96.
Treys band plays tonight at The Fillmore in Denver, CO. For the complete schedule, visit www.treyanastasio.com.
