The John Scofield Band kicks off its European tour Thursday at Sonderborghus in Soenderborg, Denmark. The group’s new album, Up All Night, has just been release and features the same core line-up that is currently touring with Sco: guitarist/sampler Avi Bortnick, drummer Adam Deitch and bassist Andy Hess (the disc also features a four-piece horn section on six tracks). ‘It’s a group that’s really developed over the last year and a half,’ says Scofield. ‘We didn’t really set out to do anything different here, other than adding the horn charts to orchestrate and expand it. I think the band is just playing better together, and we’re able to add more sounds because Avi’s really gotten great at the samples and I’m using a lot more guitar sounds than I have in the past.’
The quartet’s itinerary includes multiple dates in Hungary, Germany, Moscow, Italy, Austria, England, Switzerland and Spain. The band returns to the U.S. in mid-June and will perform throughout the summer.
