As is a longstanding tradition for indie rockers, Yo La Tengo, the ensemble will return to the stage this holiday season for an eight-night stand celebrating Hanukkah, from Dec. 18 through 25, at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.
The band confirmed the news on their social media pages, writing, “yup, we’re going to be back at the Bowery Ballroom this year to play all eight nights of Hanukkah.” Before continuing with their impending plans to perform a set where they’ll reframe from doubling up on select numbers so that each night presents fresh material.
Moreover, the expansive event will also see music and jokes from an unannounced opening band and comedian during each night’s billed performance. To conclude their social post, the band added: “And if we can convince anyone else to join in, they’ll be there too.”
Yo La Tengo also added that the celebratory event would benefit a charity of their choosing. The band’s Hanukkah shows date back to 2001, when they started this tradition in their hometown of Hoboken, N.J., at Maxwell’s before the venue’s 2012 closure. After pausing for a few years, they returned in 2017 at the Bowery Ballroom and have performed at the New York location every year since, except in 2020, when the pandemic forced the group to reimagine their event in livestream format.
Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning on Friday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. ET.
