Last night at the Beacon Theatre, the Allman Brothers Band celebrated the date that its members acknowledge as the group’s 40th anniversary. In so doing, the group once again offered a nod to the ABB’s initial guiding light, Duane Allman, by performing the two studio albums on which he appeared in their entirety. Starting with ‘Don’t Want You No More,’ the first set consisted of the Allman Brothers Band’s self-titled debut disc. Set two then offered a performance of the group’s second album, Idlewild South. For an encore the band played ‘Statesboro Blues,’ the song that opens the legendary At Fillmore East recording and also the first tune where Duane Allman perfected what would become his signature slide guitar technique. Although some rumors had suggested that Dickey Betts might appear at the show last night to honor Duane, the guitarist was not on hand.
The ABB will close out its 15 show Beacon run with gigs tonight and Saturday.
